History
The Palots settlement lying under Bözsöny was first mentioned in a written source in 1271, but as it is testified by finds from the excavations it was already inhabited at the time of Hungarian Conquest. According to the tradition the site of the ancient settlement was not identical with that of the present village; it was situated in the area called Pusztatemplom whose inhabitants - after the settlement had been devasted during the Turkish occupation of Hungary - moved to the present-day village. As it has been recounted the bells were hidden from the enemy in the well by the church Szamolyapuszta, that belongs to the village, has famous historical past as well: in the 13th century a monostery stood here. Many famous persons owned territories by the village throughout the centuries. For a long period the Madách family was ruling here whose descendant Imre Madách wrote The Tragedy of Man, one of the most precious pieces of our national theatre. Kálmán Mikszáth, our outstanding writer, owned here land as well.
